Bull’s Head Revitalization and Research

We wanted to tell the stories of how the Bull’s Head area is healing from empty promises and misreporting. But before reporting on the Bull’s Head area, I had to educate myself on its history and culture. The first month of my internship consisted of me scuffling through archives, newspaper clippings, and online browsing. We started by looking into the Democrat and Chronicle’s news and image archives to get a sense of the kind of reporting that has been done. We were also connected with Antonio, the archivist at the Rochester City library, who helped us go through all of the files relating to Bull’s Head and Southwest Rochester as a whole. Doing this allowed us to find information pertaining to the multiple revitalization plans that were promised throughout the years and how they differ from the current revitalization plan. We thought the best way to tell the story was to make a graphic accompanied by audio that explains the dates in depth and archival images ranging from the 60s to now. Our research led us to many people in the community, such as Shamika Fusco.
